Permanently marked items make it easier for the police to trace and return
stolen items to you. Social security numbers and driver license numbers
with the state abbreviation work best, Keep a record of marked objects.

Lighten Up
Leave your outside lights on at night. If your neighborhood is dimly
lit, ask your municipal authorities to add street lights to replace
existing bulbs with those of  higher wattage. When you’re not at home
leave one of two lamps on inside your house.

Have a neighbor collect newspapers and mail.
Consider hiring someone to take care of your lawn,
or a House sitter for extended absences
Above all, let your neighbors know when you
will leave and when you will return.
